Amino Acid infant formula products EleCare, Similac and Alimentum are being recalled due to potential contamination of Cronobacter and Salmonella. These products are used for infants with specific allergies and medical conditions and are available by prescription from pharmacies and hospitals and via direct mail order.

Advise parents and caregivers to cease feeding with the recalled batches of product once an alternative product has been sourced. Recalled product can be replaced for a full refund. ASCIA has developed a Guide for Milk Substitutes in Cow’s Milk Allergy.

Monitor for illness such as gastroenteritis in children using this formula. Request stool testing for enteric bacteria if there is gastroenteritis.
