Alex qualified as an Enrolled Nurse at the age of 17 (being the youngest nurse in Australia at the time) and worked in the Surgical Ward ‘Newland’ at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital for 4 years whilst completing her Registered Nursing Degree.
She finished her Bachelor Degree in 2012 and moved to Wellington, New Zealand to be with her Kiwi fiancée. There she also worked in General Paediatrics at the Wellington General Hospital, but soon realized that our Australian Health Care System gives us a lot of opportunities to be thankful for. Nursing in New Zealand has allowed her to experience a new culture both personally and professionally and provided many unique opportunities for the development of her nursing competence and personal character.
In 2013, she moved back to Adelaide to be married and commenced working as a Practice Nurse in our clinic.
Alex is passionate about community paediatric care, education, wound care & preventative care. She is always looking to upskill and learn more to benefit her patients & eagerness for information. She has completed her Pap Smear & Implanon Accreditation & a Post Graduate Certificate of Nursing. This certificate allowed her to focus and reflect on differing critical perspectives of the Australian Public & Private Healthcare Systems, whilst also developing leadership and management skills within a healthcare workplace. She now leads, in collaboration with Dr Michaela Baulderstone, a clinic for infants and children with sleep issues, toileting issues, developmental concerns, disabilities and multiple or severe health problems.
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family & friends & being involved in her Christadelphian Church. Her dog Harriett is her ‘fur baby’ and she will talk all day about travelling, acknowledging that she is a little obsessed with languages and different cultures.
